Relative Kinship Assessments
CASS has a responsive team of assessors who are able to undertake Provisional Assessments in short time frames, when a kinship placement is needed for a child entering care or experiencing a placement change.
A home safety inspection, with recommendations is included in the Provisional Assessment process. The completion of a provisional assessment allows the child to live with their relative while a full Relative/Kinship Authorisation Assessment is completed.
The Relative/Kinship Assessment explores the capacity for a relative or kinship carer applicant to provide safe and nurturing care to a child in their family. Typically, the child and carer are known to each other and share a common cultural background and kinship network.
The CASS Relative/Kinship Assessment considers family dynamics in the context of the child’s placement and divided loyalties. Grief and loss are explored and recommendations for developing the agencies relationship with the carers are considered as a component of the assessment.
