Parenting Capacity Assessments
A Parenting Capacity Assessment may be requested to inform the exploration of permanency options when planning for a child in Out of Home Care.
The assessment recommendations could be considered when exploring the possibility of restoration of child to their parent/s and explores the degree to which a parent is able to meet a child’s ongoing developmental needs and has the capacity to provide safe and nurturing care.
The CASS Parenting Capacity Assessment explores evidenced change in the parent/s and considers whether there is sufficient evidence to support restoration to the parent/s as being in the child’s best interest.
Insight into the child’s child protection history and learning and development are explored through this assessment process. Observations of the interaction and communication between parent/s and child are critical in informing the recommendations in the Parenting Capacity Assessment report.
